Welcome to UK Youth’s Blog!
Welcome to UK Youth’s Blog! In creating this blog we hope to bring about an open forum of discussion about youth in the 21st century.
UK Youth is the leading national youth charity supporting three quarters of a million young people in England. Many young people leave formal education without any qualifications and become at risk of being NEET (not in education, employment or training) and slipping through the cracks of society. Young people need to become engaged and motivated to gain accreditation and qualifications. UK Youth is committed to ensuring that the achievements of young people outside formal settings are given accreditation. This non-formal approach to learning and training is proven to help young people achieve their goals and reach their potential.
In this blog we will be raising issues of concern that young people face today but we want your ideas too. In the upcoming year we will be launching our research on youth achievement programmes at our Conference on 30 April. We will also be working up to the prestigious St. George’s House Consultation where we will gather the best thinkers on youth policy in the country to develop a manifesto for non-formal education and alternative curriculum for young people. The St. George’s House Consultation will be the launch of our centennial year as an organisation.
This year is an important and exciting year for us and we want creative new ideas and open discussions from people all over the education and youth spectrum. We hope this blog will create an opportunity to unite our work with those who care about the future of youth and want a say in the direction of youth policy.
We are always looking for new voices, fresh arguments, and innovative ideas. Please comment on upcoming discussions and posts on this blog and if you would like to contribute please don’t hesitate to contact our blog team.

UK Youth has a long tradition of seeking the views of young people and people who work with young people to ensure our programmes meet current and future needs. As the introduction to the blog says, let us know new ideas and innovations you would like to see in supporting young people. These could be about education, sport, travel, jobs, music, – in fact anything which affects young people.
Throughout the year we will be raising our own issues for debate and comment. We look forward to your views. These will help shape our policies and programmes for the future.
